Best Healthiest Reusable Water Bottle Options 2025

Water is core to our health and way of life. The best way to ensure we drink more water is to always carry it around with us. The healthiest and easiest way to do that is to find a reusable water bottle that you love and is easy for you to drink out of.

This post showcases the safest and healthiest reusable water bottle options for 2025. It also breaks down the most important considerations when choosing a healthy and reusable water option.

The thing we all need to stop doing in the new year is drinking out of plastic single-use, disposable water bottles. According to this Forbes article, We’re Now at a Million Plastic Bottles Per Minute – 91% of which are Not Recycled.

Multiple factors, such as size, material, portability, and drinking functionality, must be considered when picking the best healthiest reusable water bottle option that you will enjoy drinking out of.

Healthiest Reusable Water Bottle Considerations

Size

Size is a big consideration when picking a water bottle. You want it to be big enough to hold a good percentage of your daily water intake goal but not so big that it is heavy to lift to drink out of.

Material

Another consideration is material. For the safest and purest drinking water, I highly recommend you opt for glass or stainless steel.

The reason is that some chemicals in plastics can disrupt the body’s hormones, which in turn can lead to a variety of health issues. With over 16,000 chemicals used in plastics manufacturing, these endocrine-disrupting chemicals include but are not limited to Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, flame retardants, and PFAs (forever chemicals). While the trend in plastic water bottles is advertising them as being BPA-free, science is showing that “BPA-free” plastic could be just as harmful to human health as BPA-containing plastic. It can be nearly impossible to entirely avoid plastic in this day and age, but still trying to limit your exposure can be very beneficial. Even with good-quality water bottles, the lids are still likely to be glass. Food-grade silicone is shown to be a better alternative when available.

You also need to be careful not to use water bottles containing potentially dangerous heavy metals such as aluminum or copper. Copper, while an essential mineral, can easily be stored in the body as a toxic heavy metal once certain levels are reached. Take it from someone who has suffered from copper toxicity in the past. Too much copper in your system can be detrimental to your brain and body, so it’s best to avoid excess copper in any way you can. While the potentially harmful effects of aluminum tend to be controversial due to lacking evidence in certain areas, it has been firmly established that aluminum is a neurotoxin, so it makes sense to limit your exposure.  If you are going to go the metal water bottle route, choose a high-quality stainless steel.

Borosilicate glass is the most durable glass and least prone to breaking. Lead used to be an issue you needed to look out for in glass, but glassware has been lead-free since the 1980s. However, it could still be an issue in vintage or imported glassware. Cadmium, another toxic metal, can sometimes be found in orange, yellow, or red glass. Both lead and cadmium are very uncommon in modern glassware and shouldn’t be found in any glassware marketed as food-safe.

Portability

If you are drinking water on the go, the ease of portability becomes essential. Things like the ability to throw in a bag without leaking, having it fit in a cup holder, and not being easily breakable are usually the key considerations in this category. It makes more sense to have one type of water bottle when at home or in the office and another one to take on the go. That’s what I do as I use a glass water bottle at home and take a stainless steel one with me when I leave the house. Another quick tip is to keep a filled water bottle next to your keys or by your door so it is easy to grab when you leave the house.

Drinking Functionality

Drinking through a straw is shown to increase water consumption due to its convenience, ability to swallow more water at a time, and accessibility.

Now, what about the fears that drinking through a straw can contribute to lip wrinkles?

Given water’s ability to plump and hydrate the skin, I would say that when using a straw to drink more, the pros outweigh the cons. But if that is a concern for you, next time you drink out of a straw, look in the mirror and see if, when you do, those lines are formed. Depending on the way you purse your lips to drink, you may not be forming them. If you are, you have a few options: ditch the straw, train yourself not to purse your lips while drinking from a straw, or use a straw designed for keeping lip pursing to a minimum. Like these Anti-Wrinkle Straws from OUTXE. This glass version of an Anti-Wrinkle Straw, or opt to put a silicone anti-wrinkle tip on your favorite reusable straw.

Another way a water bottle can enhance its drinking functionality is by having a handle. A handle can make it easier to pick up and drink out of and help serve as a consistent reminder to drink more water.

Healthiest Reusable Water Bottle Recommendations

My #1 Home/Office Reusable Water Bottle Pick

This 24oz glass water bottle with a handle is my #1 choice when I am at home or working in my office. I prefer to drink out of all glass, so I swap the stainless-steel straw for these glass ones. I also prefer to use plastic lids, as they don’t touch the water. While bamboo is hyped as a healthy and sustainable material, most of the bamboo products on the market are made with and leach harsh and toxic chemicals that are used during the manufacturing process.

However, I love this cup because it’s glass, easy to pick up with the handle, can hold a good amount of water, and its lid fits the glass straws I like to use. It is also dishwasher safe, which is a huge bonus.

My #1 On-The-Go Reusable Water Bottle Pick

I love this 22oz Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle by Simple Modern for on-the-go. When I am out and about, I prefer something more durable than glass, but I also like to have a water bottle that I can throw in my purse or bag and not have to worry about it leaking. Add in the additional benefits that it fits in most cupholders, comes in a variety of colors, is priced well, and has a flip straw for easy drinking capability, and you can see why it is my #1 pick for when I am on the go.

This stainless-steel insulated water bottle from BJPKPK is easy to throw in a bag and go. It comes with three different lid choices and is available in a wide variety of colors and sizes.

This 40-oz stainless steel insulated tumbler by Simple Modern seems like a good dupe for the highly coveted Stanley Quencher at less than half the price. Complete with a straw, lid, handle, and the ability to fit in most cup holders, I can see why it has become a cult classic.

Another excellent replacement for the infamous yet expensive Stanley Cup is this HydroJug Traveler. It has a handle and flip-straw, fits in cup holders, and claims to be leak-resistant.

This Ello Syndicate 20oz Reusable Glass Water Bottle is another great on-the-go option. It filters with a one-touch leakproof flip lid and a protective silicone sleeve. It is also dishwasher safe.

If you want to elevate your water and have a little fun, consider this crystal water bottle by SAOI. Keep in mind that I only recommend quartz crystals when it comes to crystals that come into contact with your water. Quartz crystals have a hardness scale of 7, so they won’t break down, and they are not toxic like some other crystals.

Another great way to elevate your water is to consider a Hydrogen Water Bottle like this one, which adds 6000ppb to your water. Unfortunately, I could not find a glass hydrogen water bottle that adds enough ppb (parts per billion) of hydrogen to make it worthwhile.

While Hydrogen Water may sound like a gimmick, thousands of studies have actually researched hydrogen’s benefits for the human body. Think of it as drinking water with the added benefit of antioxidants.
